What is Oakdale? What is commonly referred to as Oakdale is the interior of the 2 mile perimeter that surrounds the Oakdale School District. Where is Oakdale? The Oakdale Pre-k through 8th grade school is located just south of Edmond in NE Oklahoma City at the intersection of NE 122nd and Sooner. Because children can attend Edmond Memorial High School after graduating from Oakdale, most people assume it is Edmond. Most of Oakdale, however, is located in Oklahoma City. Why Oakdale? For some, convenient access to I-35 and the city is important. Many doctors have to live within 30 minutes of their hospital, and you can get anywhere in the metro in 30 minutes from Oakdale. I can't speak for everyone, but the school is the epicenter of activity and the main draw for the area. I personally moved out of the Edmond School District, probably the best large school district in the metro, to have my three girls attend Oakdale. What you see on paper is impressive, as the test scores are through the roof, but what isn't on paper is where I see the most value. The entire school, from Pre-k to 8th grade, has less than 800 students. This is smaller than the elementary school my girls would have attended. The facilities are amazing. Because of the affluent tax base surrounding the school, anything that can aid your child's education is available. Most importantly, because this is a small pocket area you have to live in to attend, there is a real sense of community that I never experienced before. People in Oklahoma are some of the nicest people in the country, and Oakdale is no exception. When? Now is the best time to act. Oakdale is a very small area, and much of the land has already been developed.
